Buttery Almond Treat (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - ¼ cup sliced almonds
02 - 1 large egg
03 - 8 oz almond paste
04 - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
05 - 1 tablespoon water
06 - ¼ cup granulated sugar
07 - 1 sheet puff pastry

# Instructions:

01 - Turn the oven to 400°F. Put parchment paper or a silicone mat on a baking sheet.
02 - Mix the water and egg in a small bowl by whisking well. Leave it aside for now.
03 - Blend the almond paste, sugar, and vanilla in a mixer or food processor until you’ve got a smooth mix.
04 - Lay the sheet of puff pastry on the lined baking sheet. With a rolling pin, roll it out gently to make it slightly wider and thinner.
05 - Cut slits at 1-inch gaps down the sides of the puff pastry, leaving the center untouched. Place the almond mixture in the middle. Fold the strips over the filling diagonally, switching sides as you go.
06 - Lightly brush the entire pastry with the egg wash. Scatter the sliced almonds over the top surface.
07 - Pop it in the oven for 10 minutes at 400°F. Then reduce the temperature to 375°F and bake for another 17–20 minutes, or until the pastry is a nice golden brown.
08 - Let it sit on the baking sheet for 10 minutes to cool. Then, slice it up and enjoy.

# Notes:

01 - Let the puff pastry thaw in the fridge overnight, or leave it at room temp just until it’s soft enough to work with. Don’t let it sit too long, or it might get too soft and soggy.
02 - Stick to using enough almond paste—it’s the main flavor and can’t be skipped.
03 - Spread a layer of Nutella on top of the almond mix before folding for a chocolatey twist.
