Classic Patty Melt (Printer-Friendly Version)

# What You'll Need:

→ For the Patty Melts

01 - 6 slices rye bread
02 - 6 tablespoons butter, softened
03 - 1 pound ground beef
04 - 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
05 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
06 - 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
07 - 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
08 - 2 tablespoons ketchup
09 - 1 teaspoon sweet relish
10 - 1 teaspoon sugar
11 - 6 slices cheddar cheese
12 - 6 slices provolone cheese

# Let's Cook!:

01 - Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Set aside.
02 - Mix the ground beef with pepper, salt, and onion powder. Shape into 3 patties.
03 - Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 2-3 minutes per side, then reduce heat to low and cook until fully done (160°F inside).
04 - In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet relish, and sugar. Set aside.
05 - Heat another skillet on medium-low. Place buttered bread (butter-side down) in the skillet. Layer with 2 slices of cheddar, a patty, and 2 slices of provolone. Spread sauce on the unbuttered side of another slice of bread, then place it sauce-side down on top of the cheese.
06 - Toast each side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Repeat for all patty melts.
07 - Serve the patty melts warm and enjoy!
